Our 2011-2012 Cabin
Each year, SnowDrifters leases a cabin for its members to use during ski season. Members can reserve space in the cabin in advance by contacting the cabin reservation coordinator. The cabin will be opening 12/10/2011 and close on 4/14/2012.
We have the same cabin in Tahoe Donner as we had for the last 10 years! It's a great cabin with 3 bathrooms and a lot of space.

Reservation Policy
- Reservations are required. You must make a reservation to stay at the cabin. Only current club members in good standing may make reservations. Individuals with expired memberships may not make reservations to stay at the cabin and will be charged the guest fee if staying as the guest of a current member. Pass holders, please remember you must also make an advance reservation to stay at the cabin.
- Payment in advance. Your reservation is confirmed when the cabin coordinator has received your payment by check or PayPal except for organized race/events weekends. Please see next section.
- Reservations for organized weekends/events are accepted as space in the cabin is available. When space is unavailable, reservations will be added to a wait list and members will be notified by email if space becomes available.
- Members taking part in the event (e.g. race team members on a race weekend) will be given priority. Other members/guests can make reservations in advance but acceptance of the reservation/payment does not guarantee a place. Non-participants who reserve in advance will be allocated cabin places two days before the event if there is space, otherwise any advance payment made will be returned.
- The decision to reserve an additional cabin for an organized weekend will be made the Monday before that weekend. Booking an additional cabin will require 6 people beyond capacity, so please get your reservations in early!
- Partial stays for an organized weekend or event (one night of an organized weekend or a partial stay over Thanksgiving or New Year's, among others) will be considered at noon two days before the first night of the weekend or event on a first come, first served basis and as space is available. Reservations for partial stays submitted before the consideration time must resubmitted at that time. The cabin coordinator will not maintain a wait list for partial stays.
- It is acceptable for a member to reserve and pay for an entire event but only attend part of the event.
- Guests. Members are welcome to bring guests. You must include each of your guests in your reservation. When we expect the cabin will be full, we may limit the number of guests to one per member. At other times, you will be able to have multiple guests. You must be present with your guests. Children are welcome, except on race and organized weekends.
- Reservations for the private room are accepted until noon two days before the first night of the weekend or event. (For weekends this means noon the Wednesday before.) The private room is intended for dating couples in the club. The coordinator will maintain a list of requests for the room for each weekend or event and assign the room Thursday before the weekend or event. Priority will be given to the couple with the fewest total number of nights in the private room over the season. If that couple had the private room the prior weekend or organized event, priority will go to the next couple on the private room request list with the fewest nights in that room over the season.
- Rooms are assigned to the best of the cabin coordinator's ability. However, individual beds in rooms are not assigned by the cabin coordinator. Some rooms have a combination of bunk and queen beds and space will be assigned two per queen bed when necessary. Men and women will not be placed in the same room unless the cabin coordinator has permission from everyone staying in that room. Members will be notified of room assignments by email the Thursday night before the weekend or event.
Cancelling Reservations
- If you must cancel: Please be courteous to the cabin coordinator and cancel as soon as possible so others can take your spot and room assignments can be rearranged.
- Organized weekends. If you cancel a reservation 7 or more days before the date reserved, your cabin account will be credited the full amount less a $10 cancellation fee. Otherwise, your account will be credited only if your space can be filled.
- Other than organized weekends. Your cabin account will be credited the full amount less a $10 cancellation fee.
Cabin Passes
Nine season passes will be sold to current members. Season pass holders may stay at the cabin a maximum of 14 nights within any 4 week period. They may not stay at the cabin more than 8 nights in a row over any span of time. Pass holders staying 8 nights in a row must have at least 5 nights away from the cabin before staying their next night. The exception to this policy is the period of time between December 23 and January 2. The season pass allows the holder to stay at the cabin this extended period and the holder may stay at the cabin for a 3 night weekend (Friday night, Saturday night, and either Thursday night or Sunday night). Season passes inlcude food on race weekends, but pass holders will be charged an additional fee for food on other organized weekends.
While you're at the cabin
- Carpooling. Since there is limited parking at the cabin, we encourage carpools for organized weekends. Please give vehicles with more occupants priority in parking. If necessary, cars with the fewest number of passengers may be asked to park in the Recreation Center lot or in Truckee.
- Bring your own bedding and towels. You'll need a pillow, sheets, blankets or sleeping bag and towels.
- Cabin combination. Members with reservations will receive the weekly cabin combination for the lock by email the night before the first night of the weekend or event. Please don't give out the combination. Return the lock keys to the lock boxes immediately after use.
- Sign the log book. Each member and each guest must sign the log book and a liability waiver for each stay at the cabin.
- Store your street shoes, boots and skis appropriately. Store your street shoes, ski boots and skis in the designated spots.
- Follow bedding assignments. We will assign you to particular rooms. Please don't change your assignment. Remember that an apparently empty bed may be assigned to someone who hasn't arrived yet. We will try to accommodate special requests when you make reservations.
- Keep personal belongings in bedrooms. Please keep towels and toiletries in your bedroom.
- Personal food and belongings. Please mark your personal food with your name. When you leave the cabin, take your food and all your belongings with you. Nothing can be left behind.
- Drivers: make your keys available. Drivers, please leave your keys on the key rack to facilitate moving vehicles in the driveway.
- Return the recreation center pass to the log book. If you use the pass to go to the recreation center, please remember to return it to the log book so it is available for other members to use.
- Internet Access. Wireless internet access will be available at the cabin for an additional $20 fee for the entire season.
Cabin Cooperation, Maintenance and Safety
- We rely on your cooperation and good will to make the cabin pleasant and safe!
- Do your part. We expect each member to help at the cabin. Please volunteer! The cabin log book lists the things that need to be done. Some of the most important are: clearing snow from sidewalks (safety), clearing snow from decks (they can collapse under heavy loads), closing the cabin (prevent burst pipes), taking out the trash and keeping the cabin neat and clean.
- Washer/dryer. NOT FOR CLUB USE!! Please do your laundry at home and not at the cabin.
- Bathrooms. Please keep these neat. Use paper towels to wipe up the sink whenever it gets messy. Please be quick when others are waiting. Up to twenty people sharing three bathrooms is heavy use!
- Thermostat settings. Please keep the thermostat below 68 degrees. Turn it down to 60 degrees when the cabin is not in use, and 50 degrees when closing the cabin. Use wood burning stoves to save on utilities. (Last year we spent over $3000 on utilities.)
- Smoking is not permitted in the cabin.
Contacting the Cabin Coordinator
- The cabin coordinator for 2011-2012 is Open. You can contact her by email at cabin@snowdrifters.org. This is the best way to reach her.
Exceptions to any of these policies will be made as needed at the discretion of the cabin committee. If no cabin committee member is present, the decision will be made by a majority vote of the current board members present.
